Governor Bello Mohammed Matawall of Zamfara on Wednesday began disbursing N10,000 in cash to poor and vulnerable people in the state.
Matawall said the program, which falls under the Zamfara Poverty Alleviation Agency (ZAPA), was designed for one million beneficiaries.
The governor, who was represented by Zamfara State Assembly Deputy Speaker Alhaji Musa Bawa-Musa, said the program was aimed at reducing unemployment and poverty.
The agency’s chief executive, Ubaidullahi Yahaya-Kaura, said the cash transfer beneficiaries included people with special needs, small traders, widows and orphans.
