Yesterday, thousands of residents of Jigawa State were jubilant and enthusiastic as the federal government’s N5,000 monthly cash transfer resumed in the state.
According to the state social security register, more than 167,620 less privileged residents are expected to receive the payment amounting to 1.6 billion naira.
During a visit to some of the local government payment points in Kiyawa State, our correspondent saw hundreds of beneficiaries come to the site with their cards for payment.
According to one of the beneficiaries, Hajara Rabi’u, the monthly cash transfer of 5,000 naira has changed her life and that of her family.
For Hajara Abbas, she uses the money to buy food and other basic items.
“I’m too old to start a business, what I need now is something to keep my soul and body together for my last days on earth, thank goodness these 5,000 N gave me relief “she said.
The state’s training and communications official, Malam Mustapha Yakubu Madobi, said the current payment exercise was for the months of May and June.
He added that two companies had been hired for the payment by the federal government and that the first company had already paid 67,402 beneficiaries while the current payment would cover 91,255 beneficiaries across the state.
