How to delete your Cash App account


Peer-to-peer payment app Cash App is almost as popular as Venmo for transferring money to friends and family, with 44 million users in 2021. Recently, however, the app make the headlines for all the wrong reasons, when a former employee uploaded investment reports containing sensitive client information.

Although the security breach, which allegedly affects 8.2 million US users, did not compromise information such as usernames, passwords, bank account information or access codes to the account, you may still be considering deleting the app completely and using another money transfer app. But before you go ahead and remove Cash App from your phone, there are a few things you need to do first. Read on and we’ll show you how to delete your Cash App account the right way.

How to delete your Cash App account

Since Cash App is tied to your bank account, you will need to permanently delete your Cash App account before deleting the app from your phone. Before doing this, you will need to transfer the money from your Cash App account to your bank account.

Step 1: Open the Cash app on your phone.

2nd step: Transfer money from your Cash App account to your bank account by pressing the button Banking in the lower left corner (it looks like a house), then press Cash out. Note that if you have bitcoins or stocks, these will need to be sold before you can close your account.

Step 3: Now press the Account icon (which looks like a person) in the upper right corner, then scroll down and tap Support.

Step 4: Faucet Something else at the bottom of your screen, then Change account settings.

Step 5: Faucet Close your Cash App account.

Step 6: On the next page, click Confirm to permanently close your Cash App account.

Once you have followed all these steps, you will be automatically logged out of Cash App. You should receive an email or text message confirming that you have closed your account. Once you receive this notification, you can safely proceed and remove the app from your iOS or Android device. If the confirmation does not arrive, it is best to contact Cash App customer service to verify that your account has been closed before deleting the app.
