How to buy Bitcoin on the Cash app

Before you do anything else, you’re going to want to buy Bitcoin! Cash App lets you buy as little as $ 1 of Bitcoin at a time, and the app has a fully separate tab for managing your coins.

Cash App has a designated tab for quick and easy Bitcoin transactions.

  • From the home screen of your Cash App, tap the Bitcoin symbol in the lower right corner to open the Bitcoin tab.
  • Click on the big illuminated “Buy” button in the center of your screen.
  • Select the amount of Bitcoin you wish to purchase by selecting a set USD value or creating a custom order.
  • If this is your first time buying Bitcoin on the Cash app, you will be asked to enter some additional personal information for security purposes and set a PIN code. If you make another purchase, you will only have to enter your PIN code.
  • You will have the option to confirm your order, where Cash App will break down any charges taken with your purchase.
  • Once your order is complete, you will be taken back to the Bitcoin tab. You will now see your Bitcoin balance in the foreground, along with a simple graph showing the fluctuations in the Bitcoin market over the past week.

How to sell Bitcoin on the Cash app

The key to making money trading Bitcoin is to strike while the iron is hot. On the Cash App, you can sell Bitcoin quickly whenever you want, or set up automatic sales when value increases.

You can make a one-time sale in seconds or set up automatic sales if Bitcoin’s value hits a certain milestone.

  • In the Bitcoin tab, press the “Sell” button in the center.
  • The app defaults to a one-time sale, and you’ll be prompted to choose a USD value you want to sell. Like purchase options, you can choose a defined value or create a custom one.
  • Once you have chosen a value, you will be asked to enter your PIN and confirm the sale. And that’s all! Your Bitcoin has been sent and your Bitcoin and USD balances will reflect the transaction.
  • You can also schedule sales that are triggered when the value of Bitcoin reaches a certain number. When you first press “Sell”, press the “Change Order Type” button instead of selecting a single sale value.
  • On the next screen, tap “Custom Sell Order”.
  • On the next screen, you will see a graph plotting the value of Bitcoin (you can watch it by day, week, month or year). Using the slider, you can choose a Bitcoin price that will trigger a sale.
  • Once you have chosen your value, press “Set”.
  • You will now be asked how much you would like to sell once this trigger number is reached. Again, you can select a listed amount or choose a custom amount.
  • You will now be prompted to set an expiration date for this trigger from a few options set. Defining automatic sales can be interesting if you are very mindful of the market, but know that what you define is what you get. The sale will close immediately once your target value is reached, even if the value continues to rise.
  • Once you’ve set an expiration date, Cash App will ask you to enter your PIN and confirm details before officially setting automatic sale.
  • You cannot change these rules after you configure them, but you can override them and configure more. To see which auto sales you have set up, scroll down to the “Activity” section of the Bitcoin tab.

How to send Bitcoin on the Cash app

Want to send Bitcoin to a friend? Sending Bitcoin is as easy as sending USD on Cash App.

Just change the currency you want to use and you can send Bitcoin to your contacts.

  • Cash App will obviously send USD by default. To switch to Bitcoin, simply tap the currency drop-down menu on your transaction tab.
  • The currency menu will show you the balances in USD and Bitcoin. Tap Bitcoin to exchange the currency you are trading with.
  • Choose the amount you want to send. Plug in a value in USD and Cash App will tell you how much it is Bitcoin. There is a minimum to transfer Bitcoin, but it will only be a few dollars. Once you’ve connected your number, just tap “Send” at the bottom of the screen.
  • As with a USD transaction, you will be prompted to choose a recipient from your contacts or enter a $ Cashtag before confirming the transaction and sending it.

How to transfer Bitcoin between Cash App and other wallets

If you want to move funds for some reason, withdrawing and depositing Bitcoin on Cash App through other cryptocurrency wallets is straightforward.

Before you can activate blockchain transfers on your Cash App account, you will need to verify your account by providing personal information and photo ID. If your account has not been verified, there will be an option in the Bitcoin tab under your balance and the market chart.

Bitcoin withdrawal

You can send and receive Bitcoin from compatible wallets once you verify your account.

  • On the Bitcoin tab, tap the send icon.
  • On the next screen, you can indicate exactly how much Bitcoin you want to withdraw from the Cash App.
  • There are several ways to enter the wallet address you want to transfer your Bitcoin to. If you press “Send” at the bottom of your screen, you can enter a wallet address manually or paste one on the next screen. You can also scan the QR code of a wallet address by tapping the scan icon in the top left corner of your screen.
  • Once you’ve entered a destination, you can choose a transfer speed for your withdrawal, each with different fees.
  • When you press “Next”, you will be asked to enter the PIN code of your Cash application and to confirm the transaction before finalizing it.

Cash App will not allow you to send your Bitcoin to an incompatible wallet (it will simply say that the address entered is invalid). You should always verify addresses when transferring any cryptocurrency, but this is a great feature to avoid losing funds.

Bitcoin deposit

To add funds to Cash App from another wallet, all you need is your Cash App address.

  • On the Bitcoin tab, tap the “View Bitcoin Address” hyperlink under your other transfer option buttons.
  • You can scan this QR code, copy and paste your address elsewhere, or share it with a friend. Depending on the wallet you use, the deposit will be a little different, but you will need to put this address somewhere along the line to add Bitcoin to your Cash App account.

Cash App has a disclaimer on this screen, but it’s worth repeating: this address only supports Bitcoin. If you try to send another cryptocurrency to this address (even coins adjacent to Bitcoin like Bitcoin Cash or Bitcoin SV) and the wallet you are using does not detect incompatible wallets, those funds will be lost forever.
